I have been thinking about Joey a lot today. I can't help but think that he has something to do with me going to Haiti. I cared for him for 13 years, starting when he was a newborn until he died a few months ago. He taught me to be happy with simple things like flashing lights and spinning objects. He taught me how to comfort by insisting that I touch and hold him. He had a happy life but also suffered so patiently. He showed me how to love.
I am wearing the angel necklace that Kathy, his mom, gave me years ago. So I believe he is going with me and will help me comfort the young children that are suffering and afraid. Like Sarah, his sister, said today, he would want me to go.
